Reading is one of the most important things you can do for a child. It stimulates a child’s brain and also their eyes. Reading is great for patchers too. Children love to read and find heroes and role models in the books they read.

Here are 15 books about glasses or patching to share with your patching/ glasses wearing child to help them learn and grow.

1. Peppa Pig: Peppa's First Glasses - Pedro Pony can't see very well without his glasses. And Peppa Pig is sure she can't see very well either. So Mummy Pig takes her to see Mr Pony, the optician, and Peppa has an eye test. Popular Peppa is sure to be a hit with younger kids.

5. Dinosaur Farm – This is a story about a boy and a dinosaur and it doesn’t even mention a patch or glasses, which Brennan wears both of. This is a story to normalise patching and glasses wearing.

6. The Patch - The kids at school want to know why Becca is wearing glasses and a patch. Instead of telling them she has amblyopia, Becca leads her friends on imaginative adventures to explain her new fashion accessory. One for the girls for sure!

7. Jacob’s Eye Patch - Jacob's Eye Patch is the go-to book for talking about differences that kids can enjoy and parents can turn to for guidance. Written by an eye patching mum.

8. The Pirate of Kindergarten – Ginny has double vision and it’s making kindergarten hard. The solution to her problem is wondrously simple: an eye patch! Ginny becomes the pirate of kindergarten. With the help of her pirate patch, Ginny can read, run, and even snip her scissors with double the speed! Another great book to help patching kids feel super!

9. My Travellin’ Eye - Jenny Sue loves that her "travelin' eye" lets her see the world in a special way, and so she is not happy when her teacher suggests that her parents take her to an opthamologist to fix the lazy eye. A great book about lazy eyes.

10. Amelia and the Magic Glasses: Pirates in the Sky – An adventure story about a girl who needs glasses. All profits from this book are donated to New Eyes for the Needy.

11. Amazing Amber and Her Lazy Laser Eye - Amazing Amber and her lazy laser eye, tells a positive story to children with a lazy eye or amblyopia to feel good about wearing their eye patch. Join Amazing Amber in her adventure to save her friends from Pie-throwing Pete.

12. Glasses - "Glasses" is a positive book about babies and toddlers wearing glasses. It features vivid photographs of young children playing and having fun, and it has a simple rhyming text that talks about different glasses and how they help you to see. The book is a perfect choice for parents, daycare centers, preschools, children's library collections and children's optical professional's offices.

14. Little Bear Needs His Glasses is a really popular book and comes with reusable stickers of glasses that you can place on the characters. So cute!

15. Even Fairies Need Glasses - Fairy Cassie is starting Fairy School, but her poor eyesight causes hair-raising results whenever she casts a spell! Cassie will need to learn to love her glasses in this magical adventure.

16. Samantha Wears a Contact Lens and Patch...Just Like You! This is just one iteration of this book by Juliette Vignola, and is the version that we have personally had for a number of years. You can also get versions with a boy called Jack, a child that wears glasses and a patch and even a book about a Naughty Contact Lens.
