A great part of running Kids Eye Gear is getting to travel (well, pre-COVID anyway) to trade shows and conferences, where I get to see the sights and meet fabulous people. I also love to visit kindys and schools to share my passion for kids' eye health, safety and vision. These are some of my travels along the way. 

ICBO : SYDNEY 2018

April 2018 saw ICBO return to Australia - to the new(ish) International Convention Centre in Sydney. For those that aren't familiar with it, ICBO is the International Congress of Behavioural Optometry. It was a four day conference offering learning for behavioural optometrists and vision therapists - and an exhibition of related businesses.

Kids Eye Gear hit the road to let practitioners know about our range of orthoptic eye patches, SpecStoppers and Blinx eye charms. I met some awesome people and learnt a lot of new things - some of which I'll share in the coming months. I'll admit, I am NOT a scientific person, so a fair bit went well over my head. But overall, it was a great event.

OA CONFERENCE : WELLINGTON 2015

Earlier this month I took a little trip to Wellington, New Zealand to spread the word about Kids Eye Gear (thank goodness for cheap airfares!). Secretly I think my husband let me go because he felt sorry for me since we haven't done much travelling since having our kids and I really miss it. 

Before having a trade display at the Orthoptics Australia conference, I had a few hours on the Sunday afternoon when I arrived to get out and explore. If I'm lucky enough to go to a new city, I just love to get out and walk around and basically get lost - then eventually find my way back to my hotel. 

The only New Zealand travel I've done was a trip to Auckland when I was a teenager so seeing Wellington was something new and exciting. It's a beautiful city - and so clean! The Sunday I arrived was just stunning. There was just a light breeze, barely a cloud in the sky and it was fairly warm (if you think jeans and a jumper in spring is warm). Here are some photos of my exploring.

The next two days were spent at the conference meeting lots of lovely orthoptists so there wasn't as much opportunity to sightsee. Not so bad considering the weather turned nasty and just got worse each day. Wellington certainly deserves its nickname of 'Windy Wellington'!  However, I did do a bit more walking around visiting the Wellington Chocolate Factory, Te Papa and at one point I got so cold I ended up going to the movies, a rare treat these days. 

Incidentally when I got back, after being away for 3 nights, my husband said 'you are NEVER going away again'. It's nice to feel appreciated - haha!
